I'm a freelance photographer that lives in Sandy, Oregon which is in the foot hills of the Cascades and the gateway to Mount Hood. I specialize in concert and event photography with a bit of location portriat and candid photography mixed in to help keep the skills honed.
I grew up in the southern Willamette Valley of Oregon in a little town called Cottage Grove and I am very proud to call the NW home.
I picked up photography as a hobby back in 1985 while working for the US Forest Service as a firefighter in the Umpqua National Forest. Over the next 15 years and after many rolls of film and a major career change (returned back to school and became a computer geek) in 2000 my hobby turned into a part time profession. I joined into partnership with a local company shooting photos for a couple of different adult websites.
After the novelty of shooting erotic based material wore off, I found myself looking into a different direction for photography. Since I am a passionate motorcyclist, it made total sense to focus my lens on the art form of the motorcycle.
In 2003, I started shooting local motorcycle events and with that, I found myself also shooting the bands that were performing at these events. That has now brought me to the present day.
Photographing live performances in my opinion has to be one of the most challenging aspects of photography there is. Things are in constant change, whether it is lighting, or the performers themselves. You have to be able to adjust to your surroundings on the fly and also be able to think ahead for your next shot.
All of my concert work is done with ambient light. I as a photographer want to capture moments in time that are true to the eye as one sees it, which also adds to the challenge.
SmugMug has no control over these galleries. They are just a hosting service and a place for me to show off my work. If you would like to contact me, you can call 360-931-1896 or email me at jcorso@digitalphotonorthwest.com, thank you!
